My Mom The Superhero

I have always known my mom was a superhero. She has saved my life so many times by bringing my homework that I forgot to school or making sure I have my throat coat before an audition. But this time she is really saving a life. Sarah Seathaller is a beautiful, 28 year old woman who has severe kidney failure. When my mom found out Sarah needed a kidney she said “I have a kidney that I don’t need, I can do that.” So she was tested to be Sarah’s donor. Today, September 20th 2018 my mom donated her kidney to Sarah and in doing so saved her life. I am so proud of my mom. It takes a special kind of person to be so selfless and courageous to do something like this.

My mom has always been a huge inspiration to me. I look up to her in more ways than I can count. She is hands down the most selfless person I know. When she told me she was applying to be tested to be Sarah’s donor I wasn’t surprised because it’s definitely something she would do. She has the right heart for something like that. I was overjoyed that they were a match, it just made sense to me that it worked out the way that it did. Of course it is really scary because any surgery has risk. And my mom signed up for a surgery that she didn't even need. She is putting the strain of losing an organ on her body for no reason other than to help someone else live. Amazing right? For me, being two thousand miles away from her, the surgery made me nervous. I don’t like the fact that I didn’t get to give her a hug before she went in, but she knows I love her and I thought about her all day. She will be in intense recovery for a while, this surgery is actually harder on the donor than it is the recipient. I am so grateful for her and her superpowers of kindness, compassion, patience, selflessness, humility, courage, and love. She is such a great example to me and I hope someday I will be half the person she is.

I am so glad to say the surgery was very successful. Sarah now has a functioning kidney, the best kidney if you ask me, now they are both in recovery. If anyone visits my mom please give her a big (but gentle) hug from me. Love you mom!
