Midterms
I am so sorry that I have been absent for the last little while. I really owe you all quite an update. School has been super duper busy! This was because recently it was time for midterms. It was a stressful time if I ever knew one. I had some kind of final performance in every single one of my classes. It was a big deal to me because this was my first grade I was going to receive at school here. The way my school works is that you can't check up on your grades at just anytime. You can only view your grades twice a semester; midterms, and finals. Also, it is helpful to know that all grades start at average; or C. The idea is that by the finals you will hopefully reach mastery; or A. So your midterm is your way to see how your teachers are feeling about where you are on the path to mastery. The midterms grades don't go on your final transcript, which is nice, so it lessens the pressure a little. But me, being the kind of student I am, I was still stressed about impressing my teachers and showing them I am on the path to mastery.
For the first time in school, midterms weren't math, science, english, or history related. They were all about things that I have a huge passion for. I had a vocal technique final that was a vocal anatomy/health quiz along with a performance of the piece we have been working on in class. My piece was "I Got Lost in His Arms" from Annie Get Your Gun. In my History of Musical Theatre class I had to do a presentation on 1920s choreographer/director/producer George White. There was a performance of a song portion of that midterm as well. I had a ballet midterm too, which looked like this: Tuesday we would learn a new ballet combination, we would get to work on it in class and get feedback, it was our responsibility to fine tune it on our own and be ready for Thursday where we would clean the piece for the beginning of class and then perform it and film it so that on Friday we could evaluate ourselves. I was so stressed because ballet has been so new for me. But I knew that I could do it to the best of my ability and that I wasn't expected to have mastered the art of ballet for midterms, but that by midterms I could say that I was on the road to mastery. The combination was actually a lot of fun, still challenging though. It was to a song from A Chorus Line, and it was a lot of fun to learn. I was really proud of myself and my progress from day one. For the first time I actually understood the words my Ballet teacher was saying. Ballet has turned from random French words that sound impossible to execute, to steps that I not only recognize, but know how to do.
Even though midterms were stressful and absolutely exhausting I enjoyed every second of it because everything I was doing was something I loved. I am so grateful for the opportunity I have to be here at this school doing everything I have ever dreamed of doing and learning so much every single day.
