FINALS

I did it! I finished one semester of college! This has been one of the most amazing experiences of my life. I have learned so much over this semester and I am also grateful for every second I have spent learning. I will say the last week, finals week, was the most exhausting tech week I have ever known.

Even though I was busy, busy, busy, I loved every second of it! I had a lot of performances to be prepared for and the biggest one was my composer project show. My 12 other classmates and myself put together a 2 hour show highlighting several major Broadway composers including; Jerome Kern, Sissle & Blake, Irving Berlin, George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Richard Rodgers, Kurt Weill, John Kander, Leonard Bernstein, Stephen Sondheim, Jeanine Tesori, and Johnathon Larson. I studied everything there is to know about Richard Rodgers and how he came to be one of the rulers of Broadway.

We spent ten weeks putting together this devised show. We would meet, play, and create for seven hours every Saturday. It was exhausting to stay the least, but in the end totally worth it. I learned so much about these composers and the history of Broadway. Everyone's hard worked paid off and in the end the show really came together! It was so awesome to see each and every one of my classmates learn and grow while working on the project. And I learned so much from each and every one of them. It makes me really excited for what next semester holds for the 12 of us!

This composer show was the biggest final I had, but it was not even close to the only thing I had going on. There were finals for every class including presentations, scenes, dance combinations, and a whole cabaret show to be prepared for. There was not a single "dull moment" during finals week. Oh, and on top of that, we had auditions for "Bye Bye Birdie" (at the end of next semester the MT program will be putting on a staged reading of the musical Bye Bye Birdie). I am super excited to be playing to role of Kim MacAfee. Finals were crazy for sure, but I am so thrilled to have completed my first semester in New York City. This first semester has been so surreal and I thank all of my teachers and classmates for making it irreplaceable! Can't wait for what next semester brings. But before we jump into that, the Christmas break will be nice!
