Mom & Dad Came To Town!
My parents came to visit me!
Recently my mom and dad flew all the way out here to spend a few days hanging out with me! Well, the real story is my dad had to travel out here for work and my mom snuck here with him in the suitcase. There was no way she was going to let him go to New York without her! It was really great to get to see my mom and dad.
They were only here for a few days, my dad was working and I had school, but that did not stop us from packing in a full schedule. When they first got here they brought this gigantic suitcase full of groceries to my dorm. It was awesome! Groceries here are so expensive and we don't even have a Walmart so my mom and dad went cheap shopping for me back home, and now I am stocked up! Before we headed uptown to their hotel I took my parents on a dog walk with me. (For those of you who don't know I walk dogs here in the city to make a little extra money.) It was fun, they got to see where the dog park is and all the stuff I have told them about.
The next day my dad had work so my mom and I got to hang out all morning. I don't have class until 2pm on Wednesdays so it worked out perfectly. First thing in the morning my mom and I headed to the LaDuca shoe store. I was floating on air. I have long thought about what it would be like to own a pair of these beautiful shoes and now I was inside the store trying them on. Wow, it was glorious. THANK YOU MOM AND DAD! We spent close to an hour in the little shop trying on a million sizes and styles. I wanted t make sure I got the perfect pair. I started to get self conscious about how indecisive I was being, but then the nice guy working said to me "Just so you know, we love it when people are thorough because these shoes are a real investment and we wouldn't want you to go home with a pair you may be unhappy with so take your time darling." I finally decided and the put the shoes in a crisp cloth bag with LaDuca embroided in gold letters. It was a perfect experience and I can't wait to put my shoes to use! Thank you mom and dad, and thank you LaDuca!
My mom and I then headed down to Chelsea market for lunch. we shopped around for a bit and just talked and talked and talked! I had really missed just getting to chat with my mom. I talk to her all the time on the phone, but getting to spend time with her in person and talk is different. It was really fun and it meant a lot to me. We had a yummy lunch, walked the highline for a bit, and then I headed to school.
After classes I raced back uptown because we were seeing the 7:00 showing of The Band's Visit on Broadway! The show as incredible. Obviously it was good, it won like all the Tony's. But seriously, the set blew my mind, which I didn't expect. Each of the performances were beautiful. The show was absolutely captivating, and funny! I was kind of surprised, but it was very funny! Don't even get me started on how beautiful the music was. it was very different than anything I have ever seen I am sad to see it close.
Thursday was my last day with my mom and dad. I got to go to lunch with my mom between classes. At 7:00 we were seeing Kinky Boots on Broadway. This one has been around a little longer than the other show, and as many times as it has toured through Salt Lake, none of us have ever seen it. It was fabulous!! The show was an absolute party, I am sad to see this one close too. The cast blew my mind, of course they were good, this is Broadway! What those men can do in those heels is beyond impressive!
After the show was sort of bitter sweet. My parents weren't leaving until the next morning, but I had early classes and so I wasn't going to see them. All good things must come to and end I guess. I am just really grateful to have gotten to spend a little bit of time with them. Now I love my sisters, but it was also fun to get to spend time with my mom and dad without them. I don't really know if I can remember the last time that I got to spend time with just my parents and me. It was really cool to have them out here in the city with me, just the three of us. Comparing how I felt when I was back home for Christmas and how I felt when they came here to visit me was very different. Them being here with me, I felt much more grown up. Being back home it sorta felt like it always had, but them coming here felt like I had changed and was more the woman I am growing to be. Seeing them really meant a lot to me. I am sad it was so short but really grateful it happened.
