So Now That It's Summer
Life got real busy around the end of school. Honestly, the month of April flew by. Finals were exhausting. I have loved every second of school, but it is really nice to be on break. The program I am in is very intense and demanding so I am more than happy to have a few months to slow down a bit. All of my finals went very well. I have grown so much this year. I just gotta say that I ended with an A+ in ballet. I never thought that was possible, but here we are.
Not only was I in the process of finishing school, but I was moving out of my dorm into my apartment. Luckily, I have the best parents in the world who are always looking for an excuse to come and visit me. There is no way I would have been able to do it all without them.
Please ignore the fact that I look like a hobo in this video, all of my clothes were packed okay...
Moving in New York City is a whole different game. I was only moving like 10 bocks from where I was before. Therefore, it seemed so pointless to pay for a cab. We figured that between the three of us we could move it all in five or six trips. Besides, us Peebler's are a pretty determined bunch. We packed up a whole bunch of boxes and piled them into our arms. In the lobby of our dorm we spotted one of those bellhop things. Luggage carts I believe they are called. The doorman said we could use it. We were overjoyed, this dingy little contraption made it so we could take a ton of stuff all at once. We packed that thing full of boxes and rolled out the door, but we quickly learned that this luggage cart was a little dysfunctional. It was not easy to steer, a little lopsided, and..well..kind of..just broken. Every street we crossed proved to be a bit of a challenge. The streets of New York are not very level so we were bumping all over the place. It was the longest 10 blocks I have ever walked. It was hysterical. Eventually we got me all moved in. P.S. I love my new place!! It is in the greatest area, and I have so much more space than in the squishy little dorm. Also I am so grateful to have the best roomies--s/o to Georgia & Ellie!! They are both from Utah and go to my same church out here.
So it was so much fun to have my parents out here again. I love getting to spend time with them. Guess who else got to come out here and play with me!! Siena Maria Johnson! For those of you who don't know Siena, she has been my bestie since FOREVER. She is leaving to serve a mission in Florida for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on May 29th. Funny, she is actually moving closer to me but it feels like she is going so so so much further.
Siena got to be out here for nearly a week. This was her first time in New York City so we jammed in everything we possibly could! Central Park, Brooklyn Bridge, 9/11 memorial, Times Square, Manhattan Temple, Radio City, Hudson Yards, Pizza, Cheesecake, the whole shebang!
Of course we had to see a Broadway show. But we went all out and got to see Mean Girls on the very first row. We could see their sweat! It was glorious!
We also got to go into the famous Museum of Natural History. This place is a wormhole. It is huge and once you go deep it is hard to get out. We spent over 3 hours walking through these exhibits. For the first hour and a half we were taking in every little detail, reading all the signs, determined to see every exhibit. The last hour and a half was spent trying to find the exit. Don't get me wrong, the museum is super cool. It is just huge.
Dropping Siena off at the airport made me sad. It'll just be a while until I see her again, and it'll be hard not to be able to call her up all the time. We hugged, cried, said our see-ya-laters and she was off. Well, about an hour later I was headed back to the airport to pick her up because Siena Maria Johnson missed her flight. This is the most "Siena" thing that could have happened. For those of you who know her know what I am talking about. But, this wasn't her fault. The air train broke down before it got to her terminal and after making an effort to scramble there herself she just missed it.
Featuring BOTH times I dropped her off.
Pro: I got to spend a whole extra day with my bff. Con: we had to do the whole goodbye thing again! The second times was no easier. She did make the plane this time so that is good.
Shortly after everyone left I had the opportunity to sing in a cabaret show. This was technically my first performance in NY that wasn't school related. It was a lot of fun, and I will be performing in another one towards the end of the month. So when I said I was excited for summer to slow down, I guess I lied. It is looking like me summer is going to keep me pretty busy.
The whole trip; Siena, my parents, school, moving. It was so fun and memorable. Now for the rest of the summer I am planning to stay here in NYC. I am also working at a cute little Acai Bowl/Smoothie shop, as well as a few other little odd jobs. I am super excited to spend summer in the city of my dreams. It blows my mind everyday that I really live here. I also cannot believe I have really completed my first year of school out here. I'm just so grateful. Thank you to everyone who has always supported me. And thank you to everyone who actually read this far.
P.S. This is the Acai place I work at!
